
大分遅れたが、先週末にLeoとSenaの七五三の写真を撮ってきた。
It was supposed to happen in last November, but we just had our Shichi-Go-San photo event last week.
出来上がりは3週間後ということで、自分たちで撮った写真を少しばかり。
The actual pictures come out in 3 weeks, so I list here some pictures we took by our camera.
Leoに着物を着せるのは一苦労だったけど、何とか。
It was kind of tough to put KIMONO on Leo, but we managed that together.
でも暑いのか、終始嫌がってたかな…
He did not like it maybe because it felt hot to him.
Senaも怖かったのか、かなりの作り笑い(^^)。
Sena looked scared, so her smile looked very unnatural:-)
家族写真もLeoはずっとSenaの髪飾りが気になって気になって…
And the family pictures, finally. Leo was distracted by the big flower on Sena's hair.
いい写真撮れているんだろうか?結構心配…
We are worried if there are any good family photos with this...
まあ、そんなこんなで、七五三の写真撮影はドタバタと終了。
Anyway, our first Shichi-Go-San photo event went so fast.
LeoもSenaも緊張したのか、家に帰ってから即昼寝(^^
I guess it was a tense experience for Leo and Sena. They fell asleep right after we got home.
まあ、二人ともがんばったぞ!

こういう節目節目の昔の写真を見ると、正直、今は落ち込むときが多い。
To be honest, when we look at the old pictures of Leo, we often feel down...
Leoが歩いてたり、走っていた写真とか…昔といっても、たった3年前…
The pictures when Leo was walking and running... It is just 3 years ago...
でも、これからは、こういう節目節目の写真を後から見ても、「この頃はこんなんだったね、でも今は…」と笑顔で言えるように、信じる道を進んでいこうね。
But you know what? We can see the path toward hope now, so let's move forward so that we can see the old pictures and say with a smile "I remember those bad days, but now it is ..."

明けましておめでとうございます。(遅い!)

久しぶりの更新。1ヶ月ぶりかな?
It's been a month since the last post here.
クリスマスから年末にかけて、ブラジルとサンノゼからお友達の家族が2家族連続で泊まりにきてくれて、毎日とても賑やかにぎやか。
We had two families from Brazil and San Jose staying at our house during the Christmas holidays, so it was busy but a lot of fun!
シーワールドに行ったり、
It's San Diego, so Seaworld is a must to go.

ビーチで遊んだり、みんなで集まってクリスマスBBQパーティーしたり。
Also must is the beach and BBQ after that!
LeoもSenaも、ただ家にお友達がいるだけでたのしそう。
Leo and Sena looked very happy having friends at home.


そして間髪入れずに年越しカウントダウン+おせち持ち寄りパーティー。
And we had a New Year's Eve countdown potluck party.
LeoもSenaもたくさん遊んで疲れたみたいで、皆が帰ってからは、珍しく長く昼寝する毎日。
Seems like Leo and Sena had too much fun. They rarely take a long nap but they did after everyone went back.
私も元旦だけ休みで、年末の疲れがぬけるのに時間がかかったな~。歳か?(^^)
As for me, it is business as usual and unlike Japan, just New Year's Day is a holiday here. So it took more than I thought to recover from the fatigue from too much fun. Feeling like getting old...:-)
とにかく遅れましたが、明けましておめでとうございます。

クリスマスから年末にかけて、ブラジルとサンノゼからお友達の家族が2家族連続で泊まりにきてくれて、毎日とても賑やかにぎやか。

そして間髪入れずに年越しカウントダウン+おせち持ち寄りパーティー。

先週の木曜からアメリカは感謝祭で4連休。
Thanksgiving holidays! Yeah!
毎年知り合いの家に招待されていたが、今年は4家族を招いてうちでホームパーティーを開催。
Until last year, we were invited to our friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner, but this year, we held our own dinner at our house with 4 families.
メインディッシュのターキーの丸焼きをはじめて焼いてみた。
This was my first time to bake the Bird!
計5家族用に10kgのターキーをセレクト。
I chose 21 lbs turkey since we have 5 families in total.
ターキーはもともと脂肪分が少なく、それを長時間焼くので結構肉がパサパサになる。
Turkey meat does not have much fat, so baking it for a long time makes the meat dry, usually.
なんとかそれは避けたかったので、ネットでレシピ検索。
I just did not want my turkey to be like that, so I googled and found a good recipe online.
シャンパンとチキンブイヨンに24時間漬けて焼くとジューシーに焼きあがるということで、そいつらも購入。
It uses champagne and chicken broth, so I boutht them too for brining.

Leoは「何だ?このデカいの?」という表情(^^)
Leo is like "What the hell is this big thing?".

取り出してみると、あまりの大きさとグロさにビックリ!Leoも私も引き気味(^^。
When I unwrapped it, it was so big that Leo and me felt gross a little bit.

Senaも台に乗ってママのお手伝い(をしている気分)。
Sena was helping her mom (or feeling like it).

エプロン姿でVサイン!カワイイ。
Cute with apron.

漬け汁は、シャンパンとチキンブイヨン、水、塩を入れ、隠し味にリンゴと砂糖から作った自家製酵素ドリンクで味に深みを出す。酵素が肉をやわらかくするのにも期待。
Making brining soup with champagne, chicken broth, water, and salt. We added the enzyme drink we made from apples and sugar as a flavor enhancer and also softener of turkey meat.

最後にパセリ、ローズマリー、セージ、タイム、レモンペッパーを入れて完成。
And finally we added parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme, and lemon peppers.

さすがにこのサイズのターキーを漬けておく鍋がないので、プラスチック製の洗濯カゴにビニールを2重にしたものを使用(重くて取っ手が一つ取れた)。
We did not have a pot that large enough to contain that big turkey, so we put it in a laundry bag with double plastic bags.
冷蔵庫も棚を取っ払ってやっと入った。ターキーと漬け汁、洗濯カゴの総重量17kg。棚を破壊しないか心配したが無事ホールド。それにしても重い…
Also we got rid of several shelves in the fridge to make space for it. I was afraid that the shelf holding the weight would break, but it did not happen. But it is just heavy...
ターキーを焼くのは男の仕事という意味をまざまざと知る。
That's why it is guy's job to bake turkey, huh?

当日、漬け汁から取り出してよく洗い、前述のハーブを表面とまぶし、腹の中にざく切りにした玉ねぎ、セロリ、ニンジン、オレンジを入れ、楊枝で閉じる。オーブンに入れたのが12時30分。
On the Thanksgiving day, I pulled the bird from the brining soap, washed it well, and put the herbs on the surface. Also put were onion, celery, carrots, and oranges inside and close the belly with toothpicks. It was already 12:30 when I put it in the oven.

待つこと5時間半。火の通り具合を温度計でチェックしたり、焼き色を確認したり。
Waited for 5 and 1/2 hours, checking the temperature of the meat inside.

で、やっと完成。
And finally done!

テーブルに運ぶのも一苦労。重い…
It was just heavy bringing it to the table...

で、出来はと言うと、、、
And how it turned out was...

前日から漬けて、5時間半かけて焼いて不味かったらどうしようと不安だったが、思ってたよりもジューシーで味も上手くいったかな。ほっと一安心。LeoもSenaもよく食べた。
I was afraid of dried meat but it was so juicy! Leo and Sena ate a lot too.
Leoには、定番のマッシュポテトには豆乳で、パンプキンパイのパイ生地もグルテンフリーのをあらかじめ用意。
Leo's mashed potato was butter-free and with soy milk. His pumpkin pie was also made gluten free.
全部よく食べたな、Leo。
You ate a lot, Leo!
あと一日、あまりかまってやれなくてごめんな。
And sorry that I was so busy that I could not play with you all day today.
このターキーで許しておくれ(^^

先週末のことだが、仲良し家族のパパとLeoの合同バースデーパーティーを開催。
We had a birthday party for our friend and Leo together last weekend.
前日夜中から当日の朝までかかって、ケーキの飾りをチョコで作成。
I decided to make a chocolate decoration by myself the night before, which took until early in the morning.
今回はドラえもんに決定。
This time I decided to create "Doraemon".
はじめはクッキングペーパーに下書き。簡単簡単(^-^)/
First, drawing the lines with a pencil on the cooking sheet. Very easy.

そしてチョコと串で輪郭をつくる。ここら辺までは余裕。
Then putting chocolate on the lines. Still feeling easy.

輪郭完成。
The lines complete.

ここからが長かった…
But it was long from that...
ホワイトチョコに色を入れ、湯煎でゆっくり溶かし、ぬり絵のように輪郭内に詰めては、冷蔵庫で冷やす。ピンク、黄色、赤、青とそれぞれ同じサイクルを繰り返す。
Mixing colors with white chocolate in a bowl on the warm water, putting it inside the lines, and putting it back to the fridge to make the melting chocolate hard. This cycle was repeated for ping, yellow, red and blue and it took more than I had thought.
ドラえもんの口に赤を入れているあたりに、若干心が折れる…(T_T)
I was almost about to give up while putting red in the mouth.
地道な作業が終わったのは朝5時。
And it took until 45 in the morning.

初めて作った割には上々で満足。
First time to make a decoration. Quite satisfied.
